Raining Toward Heaven
Genre: Christian
Status: first draft about 85% complete as of December, 2009
Rowen’s marriage is falling apart, and she’s tired of keeping up pretenses. She's trying her best to be a stepmother to eight-year old Jolie, but her husband (and his ex-wife) are constantly finding fault. Rowen's tired of trying and never being appreciated. Things really come to a head on the afternoon of Rowen and Pete’s first anniversary, which was supposed to an important, romantic day. She’s supposed to be at a day spa getting pampered before her special dinner plans with Pete, but instead she’s babysitting Jolie. And then there’s an accident, Jolie breaks her arm, and Rowen finds herself in a humiliating fight with both Pete and Kell (Jolie’s furious mother), at the emergency room.
Her anniversary plans ruined, Rowen drives out to the cabin on her family’s old ranch to hide out for a while and sulk. She finds herself wishing she could just go back in time, erase the previous year, start over again. Who knew that a random wish would actually be fulfilled by God? A huge thunder storm keeps her up all night, and when the morning finally arrives, Rowen sees the strangest thing: rain falling backward. It’s raining toward heaven, instead of earth. Rowen thinks she’s hallucinating, at first. But when she gets back into to town, she realizes what happened was all too real. Time did reverse itself as the rain rained backward. It’s now three years in the past, before her marriage, before she’d ever even met her husband Pete or his daughter.
At first she’s terrified, but then she realizes she’s been given a second chance to relive her life and make her choices. This time she’s determined to make the right choices.
The problem is, time isn’t proceeding the way it did before.
